Dries Buytaert founder of Drupal and Co-Founder of Acquia has posted a Twitter update http://twitter.com/Dries/status/1729306430 - "Software bugs are disappearing and most bugs come from India".
Hmm.. how can a google search trend be used to make a statement like this?
With all due respect to the Doctrate holder, lets see if I pick few strings and put myself in Dries shoes. (Read this as a comic sequence and not about my mental state or thought process):
http://google.com/trends?q=assholes&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all - "Most assholes come from Greece followed by United States"
http://google.com/trends?q=idiots&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0 - "Most idiots come from South Africa followed by UK"
http://google.com/trends?q=gay&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0 - "Most gay come from Mexico followed by Chile"
http://google.com/trends?q=leaders&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0 "Most leaders come from New Zealand"
http://google.com/trends?q=dead&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0 "Most dead come from United States and India is no where in the list of Top 10"
Maybe its Dries' approach and mentality towards Indian developers and firms that got reflected on his twitter post. Look at core Drupal contributors, drupal.org listed Drupal Services firms and see how many of them are from India? While India makes the second largest Drupal development community, the numbers in core contributors does not reflect that. Same goes with http://drupal.org/drupal-services. Does this mean that India does not have Drupal services firms? Its an approach Dries & company has been taking since long to keep Indian developers/firms on the sideline.
Posts that discredit developers/firms are allowed to continue on Drupal.org but posts that speak against a bankrupt client, non-paying client are unpublished from drupal.org. And I am yet to see a case study of a site done by Indian company to get to drupal.org front page. Not that there is none posted but there is a purposeful sidelining of Indian work that is done by Dries and company.
The twitter update just is another example of this. How can a google search term trend reflect that most bugs come from India? What should have been presented is "Software Bugs" terms on google is most looked up by Indian visitors.
If Drupal has to continue its growth, Indian Developer community needs to have respect and representation on Drupal.org and within Drupal Association. This favoritism approach that has been taken so far has resulted in many Indian developers staying away from contributing code back to drupal.org, not getting involved in community.
P.S : http://twitter.com/pauljacobson/statuses/1761723722 - now how do I interpret this ? They don't employ Indian developers :-)
